Inspire lifelong learning, right from the start
At the Guelph Public Library, our mission begins with the youngest minds - nurturing early literacy and planting the seeds of a lifelong love of reading and discovery.
Established in 2017, the Rosa Rattray Early Literacy Fund (RRELF) honours the remarkable legacy of Rosa Rattray - a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose passion for books shaped generations of her family.
By age 11, Rosa had read every title in her library’s Junior collection and proudly earned an adult library card. After moving to Guelph in 1965, she became a loyal GPL member for over 50 years, borrowing thousands of items and sharing her joy for reading with family and friends.
To celebrate her spirit, Rosa’s family - in partnership with the Guelph Public Library - created the RRELF to help ensure all children in our community can discover the same magic within the library - no matter their background or ability.
How the fund makes a difference
The RRELF supports early literacy initiatives across our entire library system by providing essential materials, equipment, and resources that encourage learning and imagination in a child’s most formative years.
Thanks to generous donors, the fund has already made possible:
- Early Literacy Stations across all GPL locations
- Playaway Launchpads filled with educational content specifically geared for young users
- STEM robots and technology tools that make learning fun and interactive
- Books, toys, and hands-on materials designed to inspire curiosity and growth
Help us spark brighter futures
Your tax-deductible donation directly expands early literacy access and supports educational equity for children in our community - continuing Rosa’s legacy of curiosity, imagination, and joy.
